Indian Investor Connect Event: Sri Lanka Edition

India is already Sri Lanka's third-largest investor country. Sri Lanka attracts FDI from Indian Investors due to measures by the government such as the creation of free zones, reduction of food subsidies and other consumer goods, the country's geographically strategic location near two high-growth regions (India and Southeast Asia) and its tourist potential. Investors in India are keen to invest overseas, and it can also help the start-ups gain access to the world's sixth-largest economy by nominal GDP and the third-largest by purchasing power parity (PPP). India is often described as "the poster child of emerging markets" for its vast commercial potential for start-ups. In a country with a population of nearly 1.3 billion people, even niche products can have significant market potential. India is one of the fastest-growing large economies in the world. Therefore, the Indian market is perceived as being capable of offering an abundance of opportunities for start-ups.

GBI, in collaboration with Mumbai Angels Network (MAN), is launching an Indian Investor Connect Platform for International Start-ups. As part of this platform, we are organizing the Investor Connect Event: Sri Lanka Edition.

GBI is building this Investor Connect Platform with the aim to connect Indian Investors with Sri Lankan start-ups and build capacity on the opportunities for investment and growth. 6 Sri Lankan start-ups will have an opportunity to pitch their innovative solutions virtually on 1^st September 2021, post which GBI will facilitate one-on-one discussion between the start-ups and the Investors who would like to have deeper discussions and explore investment potential. 

As part of the Event, GBI and MAN will conduct a Master Class for the registered start-ups on Angel Investments from India for International Startups.

Who can apply:  We are looking for start-ups that are offering unique solutions with good profitability and scalability and businesses that function as disruptors or differentiators with good traction. Start-ups need to be passionate about their market and have clarity and solid plans for their businesses.

Event Dates: 

• Introductory webinar on Indian Investor Connect Platform for International start-ups (open session): 29^th July
• Last date for registration and to send in Pitch Decks: 6^th August 
• Master Class: 11^th August
• Final Pitch Decks after incorporating feedback from GBI / MAN: 20^th August
• Dry Run: 25^th August
• Investor Connect Event: 1^st September ( 5:30 - 7:00 pm IST)

Application Process:

1. Interested start-ups can register on Global Technology Interface and sign up as "Technology Displayer"

         Reference Name: IC SL

2. Once registered, please follow instructions to apply for the call on the "https://www.globaltechinterface.com/en/innovation/67" page.
3. Applicants will need to download the application to provide details about the company and the technology or service.
4. Based on the eligibility criteria, the start-ups will be shortlisted for the Masterclass and Pitch session.

Fees:

• The selected start-ups can participate in the VC connect event upon paying a fee of $1000.
• 4% of the Investment received from the investor will be charged as success fees
