Founder & Director
Leena has two decades of experience in the field of International Business, Technology and Project Management in the Climate Change Mitigation, Energy, Environment, Transport, Biotech and ICT sectors working with numerous leading US, European and Indian organizations. Leena established Global Business Inroads (GBI) in September 2009 to assist and serve Governments, NGOs, Financial Institutions, and Private Sector organizations with their technology, sustainable energy, environmental project development, market access and international business needs. GBI works with 50+ technology clusters (cleantech, biotech, ICT) globally for tech access and deployment into and out of India. GBI provides tech transfer and commercialization (market research to deployment), program management/ ecosystem development and project management consulting services to international and domestic clients from the public and private sector. GBI developed and launched an online portal for technology collaboration – www.globaltechinterface.com – to create an online repository of technologies and opportunities making it easier and cost effective for tech to access markets.
Chief Operating Officer
Harsha has dual Master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, USA in Industrial Engineering followed by European Union Masters in Renewable Energy coordinated by the EUREC Agency- Brussels, Belgium. He has international work experience with good techno-financial analytical skills, strong technology transfer skills which include commercialization and indigenization to suit local requirements as well as experience in business development and project management, with an ability to successfully manage and implement multiple projects on time. He has worked on a wide variety of technologies not limited to floating solar, solar aeration for lake restoration, decentralized water and water treatment, waste management, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), and Hybridization systems for diesel buses (dual fuel). He had successfully worked with multiple clients to develop market entry strategies and supported with their business development activities, including identifying a pipeline of ~100 MW of Solar energy project in the distributed generation sector. He has also worked on conceptualizing and setting up technology centers in India where international entities can showcase their technologies and strengths, giving them a sustained presence in local markets. He has over 4 years of experience working with the European Business and Technology Center (EBTC), an EU funded program that offers complete end-to-end solutions to clean-technology companies who want to enter and ensure sustainability in the Indian market, developing business and managing technologies. He was the project coordinator of the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) consortium in India. EEN is a network of 600 business support organizations from 54 countries that provide support for SME’s to internationalize. He has experience in working with and understanding international markets. He also lead an initiative to develop a sustainable transport cluster in the state of Karnataka with a consortium compromising of experts from the EU, Indian Institutes of Science (IISc) Bangalore, local and regional companies and the Government of Karnataka. Prior to which he worked for 2 years in the United States with MNC’s such as Caterpillar, Inc and Putzmeister America, Inc as an industrial engineer working on optimizing spends and lead times where, he also had the opportunity to be a part of the Toyota Supplier Support Center (TPS) implementation team, focusing on elimination of bottlenecks, streamlining operations and improving the utilization of employees. He has successfully completed multiple projects focused on process improvement, lead-time reduction, Lean Manufacturing, project management, etc. He has experience in liaising effectively with both the public and private sector in India to identify gaps and facilitated the scouting and identification of technology interventions. He also has experience with supporting start-ups with idea validation, market access and technology indigenization – helping them understand local opportunities and business models.
Shibu Thomas leads Business Strategy, Finance and Investments at GBI. Shibu also manages the company operations, business development and commercialization for tech in the commercial and industrial sectors. Practical business models for adoption of tech in local markets is a key aspect of his work. Shibu has extensive experience in identifying business opportunities, developing the same and raising funding. At GBI, Shibu has played a key role at planning and scaling the operations, coordinating finance, legal and business aspects. Shibu Thomas is a BA graduate in Industrial Relations from St Joseph's college of Arts and Science. Apart from being with GBI for the past 5 years, Shibu has been in the F&B business for the last 27 years. He started his career with industrial catering for corporate clients in the early 90's . Gradually he moved on to start his own line of restaurants which included fine dining, casual dining, lounge bars, night clubs, cafes and QSR concepts, where the cuisines ranged from Asian, Indian and continental. Shibu as a business owner has been passionate in F&B concepts which gets him involved with the planning, conceptualization, execution and operations of the business. He has been instrumental in raising capital , building teams, and managing government regulations with regard to licensing. He was also involved in a partnership firm, where they started a retail business, opening 34 franchise stores for brands like Nike and Puma in tier 2 cities of India.
Senior Project Manager
Ashish is currently working as Senior Project Manager at GBI on the domains of energy storage, solar energy and electric mobility. He has over 9 years of professional experience in the renewable energy, energy access and climate change sector. Having worked in several roles he has gathered skills in financial, technical and policy analysis. Prior to GBI he was working with the World Bank’s Energy and Extractives Unit on developing an index to rate India’s performance on sustainable energy policies. He was also with Smart Power India (SPI - a subsidiary of the Rockefeller Foundation) where he led and managed the project development work-stream for setting up new solar mini-grid power plants. SPI has set up 106 plants across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand of which 86 are solar-based and 20 are solar/biomass hybrids. Ashish also worked with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and the Clinton Climate Initiative for several years in the clean energy sector for commissioning of several projects, preparation of detailed project reports, feasibility studies, techno-financial analysis, preparation of roadmaps and white papers, and preparation and evaluation of bid documents. He holds an undergraduate in Physics and a Master’s in Environment Studies.
Technology Management Associate
Jyotsna graduated with a degree in Biochemistry from Brandeis University in Massachusetts. At Brandeis, she spent two years working as a researcher in Dr. Jason Pontrello's lab - working to synthesize geranyl pyrophosphate, an intermediate in the HMG-CoA reductase pathway. At Global Business Inroads Jyotsna has worked on a market research project assessing the potential of by-products (biogas, wastewater and sewage sludge) from sewage treatment plants in a municipality in India for a leading EU-based corporate, and is currently working on an initiative with a European government organization that includes four networking events for incubators & accelerators focusing on innovation and co-creation between European and Indian tech startups. Jyotsna has helped launch and currently manages GBI’s technology platform www.globaltechinterface.com, verifying and promoting new technologies from cleantech, biotech and ICT companies. Jyotsna also works with leading business and innovation networks in the EU, US, South America, and Asia promoting cross-border tech and innovation partnerships.
Ranjit Kumar earned credential as an innovator & enthusiast in Water & Energy domains. He is an IVLP Fellow ,International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP-2018) sponsored by U.S. Department of State. He will be working on Natural Resources Economics-Water. He worked with International non-profit organizations like Aga Khan Foundation, Water for People, especially in the water-related field. He also worked briefly in Africa (Malawi) on water source mapping with the assistance of GIS. He worked with Bharti Infratel in the deployment of solar mini-grids for the cellular sites across Bihar and Jharkhand states. He is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt & Green Belt and proficient in data analytics tools like Power BI, Tableau, GISPro etc. Currently, he is gaining experiences in Energy Modelling tools like Homer and PVsyst. He has completed his MS from Nalanda University in Environmental studies and completed his B.Tech Hons in Civil Engineering from NIT Jamshedpur.
Technology Management Associate
Kumar Shivam Kashyap is engaged as Technology and Innovation Associate at GBI. Previously he has been involved in various clean and renewable energy projects such as Roof Top Solar PV and Floating Solar PV during his association as a Research Associate under Assam Energy Development Agency, a nodal agency under Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. There he was involved in understanding the technical aspect of the project and how to uplift the performance. He has also served as a Field Researcher for United States Agency for International Development(USAID) PACE-D TA project on Roof Top Solar PV where he was involved with the local clients to understand the difficulties faced by them for implementation of the project and opportunities to overcome them for full-scale deployment of the project on grass root level. He has also served as Production Engineer in a Government Approved S.S.I Unit-M/S Brahmaputra Automobiles Pvt. Ltd, Industrial Area, Assam where he was involved in automobile fabrication units, turbo-charged IC engines etc. Presently he is engaged in various Renewable and Clean Technology projects such as Electric mobility, Waste management technologies, Energy Storage etc. at GBI. He has a background of Masters in Energy Engineering with Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering.
Technology & Innovation Associate
Supritha has Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Symbiosis Institute Of International business, Pune in Energy & Environment.Has worked with National Innovation Foundation-Govt. Of India,Business Development through transformation of a grassroots innovation technology into a startup/commercially viable enterprise. Worked with Infosys in new building project in context to Energy Management, Building performance & audit-Green building rated buildings. Monitoring and improving the performance of Water Treatment Plant, STP, Battery management system, Weather Station.Lighting retrofit design for existing buildings. At Global Business Inroads Supritha is managing and coordinating startup and innovation projects with our business networks including EBN, USMAC, InBIA. Project management for technology and innovation related projects with leading incubators and innovation stakeholders in India and internationally.
Akshit is a versatile Life Sciences professional turned Consultant and Entrepreneur. With over 8 years of experience, Akshit has worked with different stakeholders in different roles in the healthcare industry. From Academia, to Biopharmaceutical companies, to Medical Device companies, to Diagnostics companies to NHS Hospital. He has also worked in areas ranging from R&D, Process Development, Product Management, QC, Technology Implementation, Operational Redesign, Technology Transfer, Finance, Product Development, Business Development, Marketing and Strategy across the life sciences value chain.
Jubin works as a Event and Congress Head at Xpomet, Berlin. He worked as a Postdoctoral researcher at the BioMed X Innovation Center and carried out his PhD at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. Jubin's experience also spans working in companies in India focused on Computational Systems Biology for a period of four years. He has served as the President of HISA (Heidelberg Indian Students Association) - 2015-16 and currently as the manager for the organization. Jubin has served on the elected committee of Doctoral Students Convention in Heidelberg University (2015-16) and represented officially as speaker of the International students working group. Jubin was the DAAD Young India Ambassador - 2017-2018. He also worked with the TedxUniHeidelberg team and arranged a Yoga workshop for the participants; He was involved in teaching school students concepts of science through visual art methods in Germany.
Chris has worked to support environmental and climate technology deployment globally for the past 20 years, covering a range of thematic areas including waste management, air quality, water and energy resources. He began early in his career with the development of technical capacity building activities focused on municipal water supply, wastewater treatment and solid waste management in Latin America. While at the Alliance to Save Energy, Washington, DC, he managed a multimillion-dollar USAID supported technical initiative designed to reduce energy and water consumption of municipal water utilities in Asia, Latin American and Eastern Europe. With the Clinton Climate Initiative, Clinton Foundation, he served as Senior Advisor on waste and water resource issues, supporting decision making in megacities around the world seeking to reduce their climate impacts via technology and process innovation. During his seven years with the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Climate Change Division, he managed methane mitigation activities, assisting cities to develop biogas resources from municipal solid waste and wastewater treatment, in support of the Global Methane Initiative. This included oversight of technical assistance and training activities in Southeast Asia and China, Latin America and the Middle East focused on cleantech applications in the waste and biogas recovery areas. Chris moved to Brussels in 2016, and launched THINKCities Consulting. Today Chris supports GBI’s global efforts from his Brussels base, working to further EU-India linkages in support of technology transfer and project management focused on cleantech, lifesciences and ICT sectors.
